360 Guide: Battlefield: Bad Company Kit Basics - 04-21-2008

Though Battlefield: Bad Company is not yet out, it will be here this month, June 23 for the United States.

After playing the demo, I can say with confidence that this guide is still accurate. However, this guide does not cover the weapons available through EA promotions for BF: Bad Company or the ones included included in the Gold (Limited) Edition of the game, as I have yet to get my hands on any of them.

First off, let's start with the kits. They are slightly different from the previous Battlefield games:

Assault Class: Like the previous games, this is the perfect all-around kit. The assault rifles are fairly accurate, fairly powerful, and possess a grenade launcher, something that is very nice to have in the destructible Frostbite engine.
This kit contains:

1. Assault Rifle:

* AEK971: A variant of the classic AK47, the AEK is wonderful at close-medium range but sub-par at anything beyond that
* AUG: My personal favorite, the AUG handles wonderfully, has good stopping power, and is quite accurate
* M416: A new variant of the venerable M16 and M4 assault rifles, the M416 inflicts a considerable amount of damage over its predecessors. Excellent for beginners.

2. Grenade Launcher
3. Pistol
4. Hand grenade (the smiley face on the pin adds a nice touch)
5. Knife
6. Life-2 (Unlock): Heals your ass without limit
Unlocks:

* Life-2

* XM8 Assault Rifle

* M16 Assault Rifle

Unlock Summary: The Life-2 is a must in a fast paced game like Battlefield: Bad Company and is a true life-saver for lonewolves. The XM8 does not inflict a huge amount of damage but makes up for this with accuracy. The M16, in my experience, is a wasted unlock.

Recon Class: Unlike in Battlefield 2142, the Recon class only contains sniper rifles, which, of course, means it is to be used at long range. The sniper rifles are generally quite accurate and inflict a large amount of damage. And though there is no prone in Bad Company, the Ghillie suit allows a sniper to be virtually invisible in the correct spots.

The sniper kit is, in my opinion, THE most powerful and adaptable kit in the game
This kit contains:

1. Sniper Rifle:

* M24: (Bolt Action) The American standard, the M24 seems to be a bit more powerful that the other standard sniper rifles, but is a bit less accurate
* GOL: (Bolt Action) My favorite standard sniper, the GOL performs very well in both accuracy and range.
* SV-98: (Bolt Action) Very accurate, but lacking a bit in stopping power.

2. Pistol: The sniper's friend in close combat situations
3. Knife: Very good when sneaking around behind enemy lines
4. Motion tracker: Aids the sniper in close combat situations
5. SOFLAM (Unlock)
Unlocks:

* M95: (Bolt Action) Shorter, bolt action variant of the Barret M82 .50 caliber rifle. Almost always a one shot kill, though, due to thick cross hairs, somewhat inaccurate at extreme ranges.

* SVU: (Semi-Auto) The VSS, a bullup variant of the famous SVD, is a semi-automatic, suppressed sniper rifle. Very good in urban areas where stealth is key and where detection means certain death. Sacrifices a bit of damage for the suppressor.

* LZ-537 (Laser Designator): The laser designator is the sniper's best friend, by far. Showing an overexposed (brightening) perspective of the battlefield, the designators make picking out all kinds of targets very easy, especially snipers hiding in the shadows. Though the bombs are player guided by the one who designated the target, they are very good for both anti-vehicle and anti-infantry. Nothing beats taking out a helo with a laser guided bomb.

Unlock Summary: The laser designator is insane. Replenishing in around 30 seconds, it is the sniper's answer to tank whores and unsuspecting infantry. It is perfect for recon purposes, helping a sniper pick up targets on the battlefield quickly. It is a must for the expert marksman. The M95 .50 cal is also quite handy. Almost always a one shot kill, it is the perfect sniper rifle for medium-long distances. The VSS, though lacking in damage compared to the other sniper rifles, is excellent for close quarters scenarios. It is very hard for the enemy to detect, and because it is semi-auto, that second round can be put down range almost immediately after the first.

Specialist Class: Perfect for the covert player, the specialist class has much to offer. With the C4, it is perfect for blowing up the gold crates in the Gold Rush game mode. And because all the weapons are suppressed, the enemy will never know what hit them until it is too late.
This kit contains:

1. SMG

* SCAR: The best of the standard specialist weapons. The SCAR is very accurate and inflicts a decent amount of damage. However, its rate of fire is poor compared to the other SMGs. The soundsuppressor, though, makes this weapon even more deadly. Performs best at close-medium range
* 9A91: The 9A91 is probably my least favorite of the SMGs. Though it has a high rate of fire and decent damage, it is very inaccurate. This, however, is alright in CQBs.
* AKS74u: The traditional Russian spec ops weapon. The AKS74u has a good rate of fire, decent stopping power, and is fairly accurate. Like all the SMGs, it handles wonderfully, especially in the area it was designed for: close combat.

2. Pistol
3. Knife
5. Hand grenades
6. Tracer gun: Though I have reached the highest rank in the game, I still have no idea what the hell this does.
7. Plastic Explosives (Unlock)
Unlocks:

* UMP: Fairly high rate of fire, average stopping power, and good accuracy. The UMP is good in close-medium firefights.

* PP2000: Very Russian modern SMG. The PP2000 has an incredibly high rate of fire and decent stopping power. The accuracy is not incredible, but this weapon performs wonderfully at close range.

* Plastic Explosives: Excellent in getting into a held position of for guarding an area. C4 is also helpful in destroying gold crates, the objective of Gold Rush

Unlock Summary: I personally love the PP2000 because of its high rate of fire. However, the UMP is excellent for firefights that take place at longer distances, and area the PP2000 has trouble in. The C4, of course, is perfect for those that love to jihad the enemy. Also good for protecting positions.

Demolition Class: Excellent in the destruction of everything. The shotguns available (except for the Saiga 12 and the ones available outside of the game) are all pump, which means that first shot really counts.
This kit contains:

1. Shotgun

* 870MCS: An icon of American shotguns, the 870MCS is an excellent introduction to the Battlefield world of shotguns.
* Saiga12: Though semi-automatic, the Saiga has a relatively poor rate of fire. The trade off of damage for semi-auto does not seem to be worth it.
* T194: Like the 870, the T194 is also a pump shotgun. As a result, it sacrifices rate of fire for damage. It performs similarly to its American counterpart.

2. Pistol
3. Knife
4. Hand Grenades
5. AT Rocket
6. Mines (Unlock)
Unlocks:

* SPAS12: Over the years, this Italian shotgun has remained a world favorite, its main trademark being the iconic folding stock. Dishes out an immense amount of damage and has a relatively high rate of fire.

* NS2000: Produced by South Africa, this shotgun features an unconventional double barreled, side by side design. Though it has nearly the same amount of damage as the SPAS, it suffers greatly from low rate of fire.

* Land Mines: Good for all your anti-tank purposes, these mines are virtually undetectable by a tank driver.

Unlock Summary: The SPAS12 is by far the most powerful shotgun in-game. Also, it has a relatively high rate of fire compared to the other shotguns. The NS2000, though quite powerful, has an incredibly low rate of fire. Land mines are only a must if you have a burning desire to use them.

Support Class: The support class is wonderful for laying down huge amounts of fire. With this class, a player can also repair/destroy vehicles and heal teammates with health boxes similar to those in BF2 and BF2142. The mortar strike unlock adds quite a nice addition as well.
This kit contains:

1. Light Machine Gun

* M249 SAW: An American classic, the M249 SAW is nothing to mock. It has a high rate of fire, good accuracy, and decent stopping power. It is a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield.
* PKM: Though the PKM has very high stopping power and good accuracy, it suffers from an incredibly low rate of fire.
* QJU88: Chinese made LMG. High rate of fire, good accuracy, and decent stopping power.

2. Pistol
3. Knife
4. Health packs
5. Drill (for repairs/demolition)
6. Mortar Strike (Unlock)
Unlocks:

* MG36: The LMG variant of the German G36 family of assault rifles. It has a high rate of fire, high damage, and decent accuracy. However, it does have a laser dot scope, making it the perfect LMG for long range situations.

* XM8 LMG: The SAW version of the XM8 assault rifle. The XM8 LMG has a high rate of fire, excellent accuracy, and good stopping power. Only disadvantage is a lack of a scope and major muzzle flash, which can make it difficult to track a target accurately.

* Mortar Strike: A nice little addon for this kit, the Mortar Strike allows the player to designate a target by small mortar fire, effectively destroying an area and anything in its path.

Unlock Summary: The MG36 is excellent. I makes up for the loss of accuracy (in comparison with the XM8 LMG) with the red dot sight. The XM8, however, takes a bit of getting used to. Though it has better accuracy than the MG36, it is difficult to track a target successfully while firing. And of course, the Mortar Strike is perfect when you need a diversion or when many hostiles are in close proximity. Also good for anti vehicle purposes.

I hope you have liked this brief weapons and kit summary of Battlefield: Bad Company. Look forward to more of these threads on how to dominate the battlefield.

1 x Thanks!
