    360 Xbox Live at School

not sure if i posted this last year, but heres the dealio. My schools network IT has blocked the ports for xbox live for some reason (even though i talked to him and he said he was unblocking them, but that was last year and still nothing)

is there any way to somehow get around this? i can play through my phones internet (tether phone to laptop, hook xbox up to laptop) but i only have 200mb a month and xbox uses 15mb an hour.

    any suggestions?

Get a cheap router and forward the ports yourself?

Yes that's what I did. I am in a triple dorm, so the room only has 3 ethernet ports (one per student) So, in order to not have to unplug shit to use my laptop etc, I plugged in a router instead. Do they make you register your devices the first time you use them on the network? Because they do it by MAC address at my school. So, now that my router's MAC is registered, i don't have to do anything extra for any device connected such as my 360, laptops, phones, etc.

    Hope this helps...

Thats what you call NAT, Network Address Translation. Since they make you register a mac address all you have to do is register the router and you shouldn't have to register anything else.

will do. i hope it does, i need xbl back in my life

now that i think about it, im pretty sure my friend does this at his campus.

is there any negatives to this? will the campus know that im doing this?
i plan on making the wifi WPA secure and everything

    Cellphone

Does your school even have any rules against using a router? Or using xbl? It would be ridiculous for them to disallow routers. For the use of laptops alone would make it worth it.

Sent using my HTC Incredible on Tapatalk.

as far as i know, they have no rules against xbox live, just that they have the ports blocked.

So, no one you know uses XBL?

Sounds like you should be selling the password to your router when you set it up.
