supposively it is a baby born with its brain outside of its skull, and missing a the front cleft of its face.

That almost made me cry. If/when you have your own children you will understand.

Cleft palate. it's where the roof of the mouth has not joined up properly in early development of the fetus (1st 8 weeks). It is quite common and in most cases they can fix it pretty good (albeit with some minor deformity). The baby's other issue i have no idea about.
