Something needs to be done about all the spam around here. It's getting to be too much. Obviously the spam rating isn't doing a whole lot.


Some of the spam is a matter of personal opinion. For instance, I think the "hitting girls" thread is really just a spam section. And the picture of you thread is now an emo bashing section? A lot of topics immediately become off-topic as people go off on bunny trails and never return.

I'd say that we should shove any thread that goes majorly off-topic into the Fast Threads section and let it die there. That way nobody gets post count for worthless off topic shit. If you want to go off topic, make a new topic for it.

Well despite being rated as the biggest spammer of all time I basically agree with most of this. I agree mainly on the grounds that whatever of me, there are vast tracts of spam that simply are never criticized.

I do not agree that the hitting girls thread has gone stupid... at least not as much as some others do, but IMO the 'picture of you' thread has got particularly appalling in places.

I don''t think any of the ratings should be personal opinion based, and there should be some sort of (loose) guide on how to use the system properly.

Off-topic I would consider to be not at all the same thing as spam and somebody (fallenmorgen?) also tried to say that. Off topic is not always a case for a fast thread, sometimes just a new thread in some other place.

Im just saying that i feel that both my bans could have EASILY been avoided with ONE warning post rather than a 24hr temp ban. Thats all im saying and this last one kinda pissed me off and i dont think ill contribute gaming gear that i have to the community to win/get if it happens again.

Yeah, it was kind of unneeded. I've felt like I got banhammered a bit too strong sometimes too. But I think that there needs to be warning and as an immediate result more banning. If we had like one ban heavy month we'd probably lose a bit of activity, piss some people off, and cause lots of tension but we'd gain quality and respect for being a good forum (like facepunch).

All of the ratings that you think are injustified are in fact justified. That is what I was referring to. All of the ratings you have been given are completely acceptable in my opinion (as well as several others). There are instances when ratings are not justifiable though.

I think that you should be able to make like 10 ratings a day and after that a text box will come up and you will need to type a reason for your rating.

Please don't talk anymore about the rating system as this topic is referring mainly to spam through the means of posts. I don't want this topic to go off on a spam trail (wouldn't that be ironic).

Your topic isn't off topic. It's a great topic. But the contents of it are about 50% spam. Particularly the last 2 pages. The last two pages is mainly people joking around and being dumb (including me).

That was not bitching IMO. I tried carefully not to make it a particularly personal issue. My main point concerned that fact that that rating system in its' present form is if anything encouraging some kinds of spam. Also it is very obvious that what is considered spam depends on who said it and who is looking at at. Sometime you get whole pages of spam going on between two (or more) 'mates' and nobody dares say a word about it. I am not so bothered about my own rating which I am ignoring anyway. I am more bothered that the really serious spam merchants are not being touched at all.

Wow usartists isn't spamming (i'm referring to his first post that got double rated spam) he talks about the subject and so what if he goes offtopic in the same post because half of it was talking about the topic at hand relivant and insightful, your interpretation and standards of spam are really high up there and that's the only reason as to why you see it as such of a problem it's not that bad it's not a big deal. Especially this isn't like people are running around posting totally random shit or one word posts like "lol" all the time how is the "spam" in anyway shape or form negatively effecting this site.

I am not taking the rating system in its present form seriously though, and I had better not repeat that. There are other thread on this and related issues.

Lul. There is a VIP section that Registered members can't see, as well as a 1337 section that registered members and VIP members can't see. 1337 can see every section except the mod/admin section (idk if there even is a mod/admin section)

EXAMPLE: someone gets more than 5 spam ratings within one month
they get a nice timeout

No...even with verification a suspension would be gay. There's no way of controlling it if we let users do it and it would be too much work for mods to verify every spam rating.
