When Im just sitting at my computer with all internet applications closed, its still sending out packets about 2 at a time.

Logically the ratio would be 1:1, right? Or more recieves vs. sents.

Sooo... Is this bad?

Don't know exactly, but I guess its normal, probably just some apps checking if theres a connection established

Thats the problem, I hardly have any apps running that require the internet.

Ever since my dad ****ed our network with a virus I've been like constantly paranoid.

And just recently I got zone alarm and it keeps popping up saying intrusion blocked from ip blah blah blah when I open my ports on my router to forward for hosting gmod games.

I agree that this is completely normal, just looked at mine. It could just be an update service for any application running in the background trying to see of you have a valid connection.

now that u have zone alarm, u should b fine...
but yea, idk, some of that stuff is hard to tell.
your never completely secure

your best firewall would b using the zone labs security suite:
http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/free/1038_zl/zapSetup_65_700_000_en.exe

and then have spybot S&D, Adaware, and Spyware doctor as your extra spyware protection.
i'd also add the yahoo toolbar to your broswer so u have less pop-ups, and it has a spyware scanner too.

if your still worried about viruses:
download avast antivirus(which is free, and pretty good):
http://www.avast.com/i_kat_207.php
and then u can also use this free Trend Micro online scan which comes in handy if your computer comes to a point where u cant install anything:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

and even then, your still not secure, but at least your tryin.

well, i've already used...

ad-aware SE
spybot S+D
Avast antiv
Trend Micro House call
Bitdefender
Windows Defender
hiJackThis
SpyDocter
Spysweeper
Norton
ZoneAlarm
Counterspy

and for some reason
when I use Zone Alarm and host gmod, it crashes frequently. and what scares me is when I set my router port so I can host, I immediately start getting alerts from Zone Alarm about how its blocked a certain IP from accessing me.

thats odd. the zonealarm used to crash for me too. but thats cause it was always trying to log IM convos, even when i turned that crap off. so it probably does crash it. im pretty sure your safe though, just watch out for stuff. and b smart. it looks like uve tried everything.
