Ok. About a week ago I or so I wanted to test out vista to see if I REALLY wanted it. I did, and its cool. I want my old XP back though, but trying and triyng, its impossible to get this back.
I have a dell (yes :( ) E510 and it comes with this symantec disk which contains Norton Ghost and apparently "Windows XP home/XP home/Xp Media Center Edition"
I've tried and I've tried but cant get the setup to execute. I want this annoying vista off my computer..despite Im getting the REAL version shortly.
Can anyone help me on how to rid of this Vista? Apparently its version 6.0.6000? I don't know. = /
Thanks

1. Go into bios and set first boot device as cd rom.
2. put windows disk in drive and reboot.
3. press any key to boot from cd when prompted.
4. erase anything that is shown and format using NTFS (Quick)
5. Let it do its thing and copy files.
6. When it reboots Go back to bios and set primary boot as HDD.
7. Reboot and follow on screen instructions.
Do remember that you will lose everything so back your shit up on DVD's or Cd's. I don't know whats sadder. the fact i typed this or that I knew it all by heart. -.-

He will have to do a manual format using a boot disk of some kind, since using the original disk wont allow you to format.
windows disks will not allow you to format newer versions of windows with lower versions... EG
you cant format an XP hard drive with a windows 98 disk.

Well since formating is not working (everytime I boot from disk I get that DAMn norton ghost recovery crap)
Is there a way for me to get a product code I can use?

what i suggest, Is you make yourself a DOS bootdisk.
the standard dos botodisk will not have a format funtion however, but you can add that, i think it sin a file called format.cmd or something similar.
since that isnt recognised as a lower version of windows it should let you format.
If you REALLY get stuck, download a linux distribution, any will do, format using that, install, adn then use the normal XP install disk.
there's no reason why that shouldnt work.
on teh other hand.. you could stay with linux XD
