Im finally getting off my lazy ass and doing some backups of my mp3's, pictures etc... Thought i'd ask around to see who does what...

My question is, what do you use to backup or what methods do you take? What software, hardware, and media do you use to accomplish this?

I just use my harddrives. For example, if I need to format, I put all the "need to be saved"-stuff on my external 200gb maxtor, otherwise I put my music in one harddrive. Movies/games and such in another, and operating system and installed files on a third.

if you have an extra hard drive like zork said, putting it on an extra drive is good. but if u dont you can just put what you want to back up on a few dvds. if u have an extra hard drive and it has plenty of free space you can make an image of your hard drive and save it to your other hard drive. there are a couple of programs that do that. norton save and restore is a good one. if u dont want to pay the 50 bucks for it look for it on a torrent site. I got mine free threw Geek Squad :P Hope i helped somewhat L8R :|

Well my SMART thing in my HDD detects that my hard drive is going to the grave soon, so for now I'm backing everything up on my iPod :)

i have a DVD binder and enough disks to do this, i use DVD's to back my stuff up, its a little slower, but it's cheaper than buying an external hard drive and is less prone to EM fields like microwaves, cellphones, etc. just my personal preference.
