Low Upload Speed? [Archive]

Lately, like the past week, I have been noticing some weird problems with my internet. I run stuff like MSN, AIM, IRC, Xfire, and such with ease. The only program I have troubles with is Ventrilo, where I spike to 10k ping, and other people in vent can't hear me, but I can hear them perfectly. Curious to the problem, I ran a Speakeasy Test, and was shocked to the results.

TELUS advertises

"Up to 1.5 Mbps" Download Speed (Which is almost met, no problem with that)

"Up to 512 Kbps" Upload Speed (Not even close)

I'm thinking this is the cause to my massively high ping in vent whenever I try to talk.

So my question is: Is this a problem on my side, or my ISP's side? If it's on my side, is there any way I can fix it?

22kbps is a joke, pretty much dial up. Call your host, that is definately not right.

Yeah. My download is usually 3000-4000 and my upload is usually 400-500.

ya dude, call your isp and tell them your pissed off about the crappy service. If you can switch isp's, tell them your gonna unless they hook you up with some kind of refund :D

I used to do that all the time until my current isp's competitor went outta biz

Don't forget these are kilbabits per second, not kilabytes.
22 kbps is 2.78KB upload, which is terrible.

Wow... when in doubt... Restart your modem -_-

IDK what was wrong, so I restarted the router before making any phone calls, and now my Upload speed is back to 512 kbp/s :)

I get 400KBPS, but im getting Fiber soon and it'll be 1Mb.

Cleaning your computer might be another solution. Pesky spyware may be lowering your upload rate as it uploads your information.
