Hi, ive got a Dell laptop (worst buy ive ever made)

first off, these are my specs:

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T5500 (2MB Cache/1.66GHz/667MHz FSB)
LCD Panel 15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA Display with TrueLife™
Memory 1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz, 2 Dimm
Video Card 256MB ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON® X1400 HyperMemory™
Hard Drive 120GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive
Operating System (Office software not included) Genuine Windows® XP Media Center Edition 2005
Network Card and Modem Integrated 10/100 Network Card and Modem
Combo or DVD+RW Drive 8X CD/DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability
Sound Options Integrated Audio
Wireless Networking Cards Dell Wireless 1390b/g (54Mbps)

i was wondering, is there any way i can increase system performance, preferably for the video. i like to play games, and i bought this cause it had a 'real' video card, if u call it a real card. for 1, is there any way i can increase the hypermemory allocated to the card? 2. is there anyway i can over clock the card? and 3, is there any way i can regulate my fan/cooling system because i'd like this thing to run cooler if at all possible? i kno upgrading my ram can help, getting 2 gigs total would be nice. any help is great. i just like to be running things at peak performance....T/Y in advance.

Remove all the shit dell puts on their pc's to start off. Anything I ever get from dell gets reformatted instantly ;) Free up some resources.

What games are you playing and are the games you playing now really bad or what?

haha, yea. i got rid of most of that crap on day one....
want to hear somethan funny? within the first week i got it, i had to do a full system restore....
anyways, nothing is lagging badly, i'd jsut like things to run smoothly w/ no skipping. lol.

well if your pc is stable, cleaned up from all the dell garbage, i dont see this machine running too badly with any decent game you throw at it. You obviously cannot run a lot of games maxed out to hell, just reduce some settings.

Im not sure about allocating more hypermemory, but if you need a good tweak guide, try this one http://www.tweakguides.com/ATICAT_1.html

Shoulda built a pc for gaming :)

haha, yea, but im a cheap ass. and settled for a dell. its better than my old toshiba with a Celeron and intergrated graphics. lol, but sometimes, the toshiba ran much better than this dell.

WOW
I recently Ordered the Same Spec Laptop from Dell..An inspiron 6400/E1505 Laptop and it should be at my house by Wednesday. The think I hate is that only after i purchased it.. im learning all the nasty sides of dell. :(

anyways I found out that Dell secretly installs some nasty programs into thier laptops. So i did some searching and i found this site..Chek it out..It might help..iv yet to try it..http://www.yorkspace.com/pc-de-crapifier/

but yea...I m pretty sure we can't run outragous games on the dell..but should be able to run source and what not pretty flawlessly.
I should have settled for an HP or a Compaq :(

btw...I don't mean to invade this post...but iv also heard that there are about 4 partitions on the HDD that comes with the dell computer...2 of whom which are no bigger than like 8MB
If i can get the drivers and what not...can i automatically delete the partitions ? and not worry about any repercussions?

yes you can, but MAKE SURE YOU GET THE DRIVERS!!! I made the mistake of reformatting my PC, which included deleting and re-partitioning and formatting my hard drive, AFTER I deleted the partition of some 100 mb devoted to restoring my PC w/ all the drivers and such. So i was stuck with a worthless machine until i could install the drivers manually. so to answer you questions, yes you can delete partitions, its part of the process you go through when (re)installing an OS, (overwrite and delete partitions are both options), but exercise caution when deleting some of the partitions, they may actually be USEFUL, regardless of the info Dell happens to forget to tell.
