so my computer is outdated. i know. so i am looking to upgrade it over the next few months and am a bit fuzzy on computer hardware :o

currently i have a kt600a with an xp2100+ in it. 1 gig of pc2100 ram and a geforce 6600. i recently had someone give me 2 identical 40 gig sata drives so i have them installed as raid0. and well the sound/ethernet cards are the ones installed on the motherboard :o

needless to say, bf2142 kinda runs laggy at the lowest res/settings. wow seems to run ok but still gets laggy at times :( i have yet to reinstall cs onto it but it seemed to run ok before i upgraded the hdd and vid card (had a ti4200 before)

so i need advice. i plan on upgrading the cpu first, then the ram, then the mobo, then the vid card once dx10 comes out and more cards support it. i am kinda on a budget so i cannot get the latest and greatest but i want to get something that will run new graphic intense games at a decent resolution without lagging. also might upgrade the sound card but i really do not plan on upgrading much with that since i am happy with my 2.1 speaker logitech setup and the onboard card does a great job with it.

so any advice is welcome :D

get the mobo and cpu at the same time. its way easier unless you want the parts to sit on the side until they are ready. if you want to get a new processor you will definately have to get at least a socket 939 mobo.

heres what id get:

this mobo.

fx-55 (These things are ridiculously low priced right now.)

One or 2 of these kits.

as for vid card you will have to upgrade if you want to upgrade everything else. you 6600 is Agp which is now officially out of date. very very few (if any) new mobos support it. i suggest getting this or going ahead and springing for the 8800GTS.

yea, theres not much u can do there w/o upgrading the mobo and cpu. it will take awhile from what it sounds.... it might be hard to find a newer mobo that can use your older hardware.....
u might think about using your current comp, and building a new one on the side... so eventually you'll have a new comp? <<<< great idea, i might do that....
