You don't get it? That's ok. Allow me to explain basically what "laughter" is all about. I know it's quite a hard concept to grasp, especially for newcomers. It can be confusing.
Laughter is the biological reaction of humans to moments or occasions of humor: an outward expression of amusement. Laughter is subcategorised into various groupings depending upon the extent and pitch of the laughter: giggles, clicks (which can be almost silent), chortles, chuckles, hoots, cackles, sniggers and guffaws are all types of laughter. Smiling is a mild silent form of laughing.
This is what a person laughing looks like:

Here is a group of young ladies partaking in the act of laughter and/or smiling profusely:

If you need any more help learning about laughter, these might help you:

http://www.howstuffworks.com/laughter.htm
http://www.helpguide.org/life/humor_laughter_health.htm
Next I'll teach you about sarcasm, and how awesome it is.
That oughta help you.

um..
Mental retardation is a term for a pattern of persistently slow learning (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Learning) of basic motor and language (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Language) skills ("milestones (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Developmental_milestones)") during childhood (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Childhood), and a significantly below-normal global intellectual capacity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intelligence_%28trait%29) as an adult (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adult). One common criterion for diagnosis of mental retardation is a tested intelligence quotient (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intelligence_quotient) (IQ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IQ)) of 70 or below and deficits in adaptive functioning.
People with mental retardation may be described as having developmental disabilities (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Developmental_disability), global developmental delay (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Developmental_delay), or learning difficulties (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Learning_difficulties).
There are many signs. For example, children with developmental disabilities may learn to sit up, to crawl, or to walk later than other children, or they may learn to talk later. Both adults and children with intellectual disabilities may also:
have trouble speaking (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speech_communication)
find it hard to remember (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memory) things
have trouble understanding social rules (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_construction)
have trouble discerning cause and effect (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Causality)
have trouble solving problems (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Problem_solving)
have trouble thinking logically (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logic). In early childhood mild disability (IQ 60–70) may not be obvious, and may not be diagnosed until they begin school. Even when poor academic performance is recognized, it may take expert assessment to distinguish mild mental disability from learning disability (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Learning_disability) or behavior problems. As they become adults, many people can live independently and may be considered by others in their community as "slow" rather than retarded.
Moderate disability (IQ 50–60) is nearly always obvious within the first years of life. These people will encounter difficulty in school, at home, and in the community. In many cases they will need to join special, usually separate, classes in school, but they can still progress to become functioning members of society. As adults they may live with their parents, in a supportive group home, or even semi-independently with significant supportive services to help them, for example, manage their finances.
Among people with intellectual disabilities, only about one in eight will score below 50 on IQ tests. A person with a more severe disability will need more intensive support and supervision his or her entire life.
The limitations of cognitive function will cause a child to learn and develop more slowly than a typical child. Children may take longer to learn to speak, walk, and take care of their personal needs such as dressing or eating. Learning will take them longer, require more repetition, and there may be some things they cannot learn. The extent of the limits of learning is a function of the severity of the disability.
Nevertheless, virtually every child is able to learn, develop, and grow to some extent.
There's your free diagnosis for the day!

adamjon858 (http://www.zomgstuff.net/forum/member.php?u=805) this was posted wayyyy back last year. It was posted when zomgstuff was only a small community consisting of perhaps only 5% of the people we have here today. So before you come here and say "that's retared" think of the context of what we are dealing here first.
p.s. SHUT UP I WAS BORED OK?
