This little project enabled me to toggle a 110V AC appliance on and off… Over the internet!
Here is a little diagram that I created for novices to understand.

The relay that I used was Digikey part number 365-1484-ND. There are probably better relays that don’t even need the 3V DC or the transistor, though this one worked fine and I had everything needed to make it work. Once you have the circuit completed, this site can help in the software part of it: http://www.epanorama.net/circuits/parallel_output.html#webcontrol
That software worked fine for me on my Windows XP Pro server.
