So a few fays ago Apple announced the beta for developers with the 3.0 update. I just finished watching the posted video of the entire presentation on Apple's site, and it's pretty impressive. I'm quite excited as an iPhone 3G owner. Here are a few key features Apple has posted on their website:
Advance preview of 100 new features.
Search your iPhone
Cut, copy, and paste
Send photos, contacts, audio files, and location via MMS*
Read and compose email and text messages in landscape
*MMS messaging is available only on iPhone 3G; fees may apply. MMS may not be available in all areas.
These are just a few features many people have been waiting for. After watching the video, features like cut/copy/paste/undo have been very nicely implemented. Other features include:
Search via native apps
Search via entire phone, Spotlight
Push notifications
Peer to peer connection via Bluetooth
In app purchasing
Along with these new features visable to the user, Apple boasts a whopping addition of 1,000 APIs for developers. These include:
Ingame voice
Integration of Maps control
Connections to 3rd party accessories
Use of media already found on iPhone
Streaming of video
To get a full experience of all the new features and available APIs, I suggest watching the presentation posted on Apple's website. It was exciting for me, even though in its entirety the presentation is an hour and a half. Apple also allows a handful of developers to give previews of applications built on the 3.0 SDK, including a full multiplayer FPS, a multiuser music creation application, an application specifically for diabetics, a popular instance messaging application, and a very popular sports application.
The beta was officially released for developers belonging to Apple's app developing group on March 17th. iPhone and iPod Touch users can expect this monumental 3.0 update to be released summer of 2009.
All announced features will be available to iPhone 3G users, while some features will not be available to original iPhone users. The 3.0 update will cost $9.95 for both first gen and second gen iPod Touch users.

WOW COPY PASTE! SO AWESOME!....
Lol. Way to make yourself look like an asshole. This isn't copied and pasted from anywhere, except where I have it quoted straight from the Apple site.
It's not hard to make a few bullets and write about exactly what I saw in the presentation. Just because something looks nicer than your recent walls of quotes, 3 sentence tech topics, or articles borrowed from someone else, doesn't mean it's copypasta.

Dont get so defensive asshole. Im talking about OS 3.0 finally bringing paste to the iPhone..... No need to IMMEDIATELY go into defensive mode and start calling me names. Im just going to stop there because otherwise ill start actually looking like an ass.

My apologizes. I assumed you were referring to my post, not the amazing copy/paste feature. When I wrote the post I thought myself it looked a lot like a copy/paste, so I figured you had come to that conclusion as well.
Anyways, yes, copy/cut/paste is long overdue as well as push notifications, but they're coming now. It's definitely not mind blowing, but the undo function is pretty "nifty" in the way it's used.
The peer to peer gaming will be a nice addition for games, and the streaming video will be good so now I can watch more than Youtube online. I thought the Leaf Trombone app from Smule looked pretty sweet, and the way the OneTouch meter can send information to the iPhone/iPod is really nice. The application developed for it will really help out a lot of people.
wasnt there supposed to be a need for speed game on the ipod and iphone? and cant wait till it comes out and gets jailbroken

it looks pretty decent. fairly routine and it's pretty much what everyone expected from apple.
one point i'd like to bring up is that they didn't allow for apps to run in the background. Any thoughts on this? I honestly think that they cant do it because the iphone is too bogged down right now, and barely has a real battery life to begin with, and allowing things to run in the backround would just kill it. Supposedly whatever comes out next (iphone-wise) might actually have a dual core cell phone processor. (i've never heard of them either.) to deal with this issue. Wouldn't that be sick.

about the backgrounded apps, jailbroken devices enable that and it doesnt really drain the battery as much as when nothing is backgrounded

Push notifications really takes care of needing to run anything in the background. I mean, why would you run it unless you need an update from it or something? And push notifications will deliver those "badges" to icons, sound, or the message box notification which will deliver whatever information you are waiting for.

They do this to save battery life they say. I call BS. I think the phone would lag like hell if you ran a few things at once. My Touch Diamond can take a shit load of stress from apps before it start's lagging and the battery life isn't all that effected by background apps.
