Step 1: Go to http://blog.gib.me/2008/11/14/left4d...s-now-with-ui/ (http://blog.gib.me/2008/11/14/left4dead-vpk-extraction-tools-now-with-ui/) and grab the vpk extractor tool. Unzip to a folder of your choice.
Step 2: Go to Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead(or left 4 dead demo)\left4dead and drag pak01_dir.vpk onto Gibbed.Valve.ExtractPackage.exe that you downloaded, or just run the tool, click extract, and navigate to the file.
This will extract all the files in the vpk archives into the correct folders within either your left 4 dead or left 4 dead demo folder.
Step 3: Navigate through the left 4 dead\models folder and find the models you want to add to gmod. Copy over to your steamapps\garrysmod\garrysmod\models folder. I made a seperate Left4Dead folder and dumped my models in there.
Most l4d models consist of a .vtx, .mdl and .vvd file. Make 3 copies of the .vtx file and rename them to .sw.vtx, .dx80.vtx, and .dx90.vtx.
Step 4: Go back into the Left 4 Dead folder and copy the materials for the models from common\left 4 dead\left4dead\materials\models to steamapps\garrysmod\garrysmod\materials\models. Try and preserve the same directory structure for the materials, don't just dump them anywhere like the models.
Don't worry about renaming any .vmt files, the latest build of the extractor fixes vmt file extracting.
Congratulations! You should be able to go into Gmod, and spawn your models.
A huge thanks to Rick for his extractor, making all this possible. Head over to his blog and give him a shout of thanks. http://blog.gib.me/
If any of this confuses you, also check out ZomBusters guide one post down. He has pictures.
