Security researchers at Symantec have discovered a new proof of concept virus that targets AMD processors rather than operating systems. Running at the processor level, the virus can evade kernel protection. The last large scale outbreak of a chip level threat dates back to 1998's CIH/Chernobyl, which embedded itself into the flash-BIOS.
