Can you set a cookie based on if you clicked something?

Here's what I want to do. I have ads on a page, but they are not forced.

Is there a way to grant someone an access cookie or change their status if they click a certain image (the ads) on that page?

Yes...depending on the type of ad...but theres easier ways than setting a cookie.
