KR
12-07-2007, 07:48 PM
I hated having trouble bringing a computer places, so I got into laptops. First was the XPS. After the first year it was wired down with so many extensions and things it was basically a desktop wired into my entire room like a fucking media center. (The XPS will still run CoD4, BF2, CS:S etc. if I unplug it from everything but if I plan on playing, I'd also want a power source, a mouse, most likely a better sound source like speakers or headphones, my webcam for it's attached mic, bla bla. I just gave up on moving it.) Next I wanted something which just did the basics. Connectivity, communication and basic coding abilities. Got the ThinkPad as it wasn't too expensive and seemed pretty basic but I hated Vista. Just a while ago I got *nix on it but it doesn't function all that properly as I kind of rushed through the install and didn't pay attention to any hardware specs before reformatting the thing. Once I get the MacBook I'll triboot Leopard, *nix and another random OS (probably another version of *nix like Back|Track for InfoSec) and sell the ThinkPad.

Plus I type a tad less than 100 WPM on laptop keyboards. When I get to any other type or a shitty laptop keyboard, I never press the keys hard enough to have them register before I fly to the next one.

Why the hell would you put all the nice hardware in such a horribly shitty case? I was looking at that case when I was building my very first PC and I didn't get it because it's so shitty it's scary. Mind telling me what PSU you are using?

They probably didn't screw you out of a couple of gigabytes.
They advertised it as having a 250 gb HDD right?
Well harddrive makers think of 250 gb as 250,000 megabytes.
That is not actually 250,000 gbs because a gig had 1024 megabytes.
1024x 250 =256,000
That's a 6 gigabyte difference which doesn't explain the rest but I bet you have a recovery partition.

Not meaning to rain on your parade here, but a Sempron was never the best of its kind. They were released as low-budget CPUs, sorta like Intel's Celeron series. Athlon was where it was at back in the day. How's the Z-5500 btw, I've been wanting it for quite some time

I'm back to my x1900. Sold my HD4870's before they lost too much value. Will be going DX11 this year.

^^an interesting decision...but now you are stuck with the x1900....not sure how good it is, but if you buy dx11 this year you will be buying in early at a premium, with next to no dx11 support and by the time dx11 becomes widespread your card(s) will be shite

Possibly. I sold my HD4870s for $130 a pop. Not bad considering now guys rae letting them go for less than that. Also my x1900 plays bf2 just fine with over 70 FPS. I'll be fine.

I know you'll be fine, you always are darling. I am just worried about you that's all. TBH computers really shit me. I just found out yesterday that my NEWER than NEW, system is to be discontinued. FUCKING HELLFIRE. apparently socket 1336 (i7) is going industrial to replaced but i3 and i5 with a different socket. My upgrade path will be with workstation CPU's that will rape all for power, but cost a fortune as well. NICE 1 INTEL you bunch of cunts
